There was a concern to preserve the exterior walls, built in handmade brick and stone, which were coated with a limestone sand mortar mixed with shredded cork to improve the thermal factor, to adjust the interior humidity to human comfort levels, allowing the walls to 'breathe' and be permeable to water vapor. All the interior spaces of this 414 m2 house received a complete renovation and are illuminated by the windows of the old facade. On the ground floor, where we find a living room, kitchen, and office, the introduction of a wooden structure was the solution found to compartmentalize and define the different spaces, separating them in a kind of open space with discreet boundaries. In this same structure, the steps giving access to new modules on the upper floors, where the private areas of three bedrooms, a living room, a laundry room, a terrace and a large attic/bedroom/loft. Natural tones predominate, creating a bright, spacious, and serene environment, in harmony with the exterior, one of the most attractive areas of the house. In the garden, with a wooden deck for support the dark-toned pool highlights the elegance of the space, where flowers and plants contribute a touch of color and increase comfort and privacy. There is also a garage for two small cars, and an annex building with 25 m2 which can be used as a gym, workshop, etc. The result is a Portuguese house, designed in a clean and formal style, where contemporary interiors coexist in harmony with the historical structure of the house.
