The Convent of São Saturnino, dating from the 14th century, is a treasure located in a valley in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, a nature reserve, next to the sea. There was a place of worship to Saint Saturninus at the site, which gave rise to the name of the Convent, and there is also a hermitage in Peninha, located at the top of the Sintra mountain range, about an hour's walk away. It was rehabilitated in 1989, requiring new restoration work throughout the convent.
